My name is Zulu. Born and raised in east bay, CA.
This is the story of my recovery from Stage 4 colon cancer.

My journey went from an ileostomy to a colostomy, through chemotherapy, surgery, and 38 straight days of radiation. With the grace of the Most High Rastafari, I took a licking and kept on ticking. Here I am, solid as a rock.

What inspired you to be involved in the Underwater Transformation Project?
One reason is the love I have for my son, Garnett. His photos are inspirational, and seeing them gave me the courage to share my own story.
The second reason is my friendship with Erena. We have known each other for a long time, and I was deeply moved when she reached out to Garnett and flew all the way to Tucson, AZ, to meet him and Ella! I am so happy to be reuniting with an old friend to collaborate on such an amazing project.
What would you like to tell the world about your recovery process or healing journey?
My advice is to never give up. I have been at my absolute lowest—during my ileostomy reversal, I suffered severe complications where I was passing waste internally and required a blood exchange. In that moment, I realized the vital importance of caregivers. They saved my life, and they are some of the most incredible, unsung heroes out there.

You have to follow instructions, believe, and be strong. The medications might take you in different directions, but you have to know that you are going to make it. If you truly believe you will do it, you will. I am okay now; the proof is in the pudding.
