Charli

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia survivor

I’m Charli, 10 years old and was born and raised in Grand Cayman. I’m a cancer survivor. Diagnosed at 13 months with ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia). I was treated at Miami Children’s Hospital.

I wanted to be involved in this project because my parents said that I’m the happiest girl, adventurous and also they are super proud of me as a survivor!

I was very excited for the underwater photo shoot because a professional photographer actually wanted to take pictures of me! I was very happy that I got the chance to do it. I wasn’t nervous at all.

Underwater, I could hear the pool drain and the jets shooting out water under there. I thought it was lots of fun because I got to use props and fabrics. At first I was nervous that maybe if I used the fabric I was not going to be able to breathe but after Ms. Erena tested it with me i felt safe and comfortable. It was so cool to see my hair floating around me ; like my hair wanted to give me a hug.

I had so much fun that I didn’t want to leave the pool. I wanted to stay and take more pictures!

Water means fun to me because I love playing with my friends and family in the water. I love the feeling of floating in water.

That night, I slept great! I had lots of energy and didn’t actually want to go to sleep.

I would definitely recommend this to other survivors and other people as is it so much fun and it’s a great experience and a perfect way to make beautiful pieces of art!
