I’m a veterinarian. I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease and underwent six months of chemotherapy and five weeks of radiation. I lost 15 pounds as I was nauseous the entire time. I also had food limitations to prevent any interactions with chemotherapathy. Many of them were my favorite foods—cheese, avocado, anything aged, wine, coffee. I was one of the few who did not lose all my hair from treatment [but] all of my hair on the back of my head that was in the radiation field fell out.

The underwater session was so much fun! I love being in the water but had never attempted anything like this photo session. During the session, it no longer mattered that I had many emotional scars and physical limitations due to my previous cancer treatment. Having my daughter, Sonia, there to apply my makeup and offer support and encouragement made it even more special.

ホジキン病の克服者

私は獣医です。ホジキン病と診断され、6ヶ月の抗癌剤療法と5週間の放射線療法を受けました。この期間中にわたって吐き気に悩 まされ、体重が7キロほど減りました。抗癌剤療法との相互作用を防ぐために食べるものも限定されましたが、その多くがチーズ、アボカド、発酵・熟成食品、 ワイン、コーヒーなどの大好きな食べ物でした。私は治療で髪の毛が全部抜け落ちないという稀なケースでしたが、放射線療法を直に受けた後頭部の髪の毛は全 部抜け落ちました。水中での撮影はかなり楽しかったですね。水の中にいるのは大好きですが、こんな写真撮影を試したのは初めてでした。撮影中は、癌治療が 原因でできた心の傷や肉体的な制限などは一切関係なくなりました。娘のソニアがスタイリングとメークアップをしてくれ、私を励ましながら撮影に付き添って くれたので、より特別な経験となりました。
