I was born and raised in Japan, and I moved to the U.S. for college when I was 18. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2009. I was 37 years old, and it was at stage 2-3, which means the tumor had grown about 5 centimeters already. I ended up having a mastectomy with an immediate reconstruction of my right breast. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, my immediate response was the tremendous fear of death. Losing a part or your entire breast is a very challenging thing for many women.

Underwater healing really helped get my confidence back, and I enjoy seeing who I am in the pictures. It’s a rare experience to see myself in such a magically beautiful way. When I was underwater, I felt very detached from the world even though I saw Erena with her camera. It was a very quiet meditation space.

乳癌の克服者

私 は日本で生まれ育ち、18歳のときに大学進学のために渡米しました。2009年4月に乳がんと診断されました。37歳の時で した。腫瘍はすでに5cmに達しており、2−3期ということでした。乳房切除手術を受けることになり、その直後に右乳房の再建手術を受けました。乳癌と診 断された直後に感じたのは死に対するとてつもない恐れでした。乳房の一部や全部を失うというのは多くの女性にとってかなり困難なことです。水中ヒーリング は自分の自信を取り戻す助けとなり、写真に写った自分を見て楽しんでいます。魔法のように美しい自分を見るこのような機会はあまりありません。水中にいた ときは恵玲奈がカメラを目の前でかまえていたのに関わらず、日常の世界から切り離された感じがしました。そこにあったのは静寂な瞑想の空間でした。
